Keep your cool

Changing your outlook might make a difference to how you feel at office.

Lots of things happen at the workplace, which might leave you frustrated, uneasy and helpless at times. Whatever be the situation, the best way to avoid confrontation is to maintain your cool. Most people take to smoking or drinking alcohol to beat job-related stress. Instead of resorting to such harmful and unhealthy addictions, simply change the way you feel to enhance your productivity at office.

Here are a few things you can do to make this happen

Controlling anger
Though anger is completely normal it can never let you win. It steals all your energy leaving you with a disturbed mind.

By freeing yourself of angry thoughts you can concentrate on more constructive things that might prove beneficial in the long run. Just let go your anger and you will feel good instantly.

Blame game
Needless to say, blame game is an integral part of corporate culture around the world. We all do it – blaming others for our mistakes or downfalls. Since we don’t like to admit our mistakes, we put the blame on others. The downside to blaming others is that you get stuck when you could actively be doing the best to mend the situation.

You should focus your efforts on taking ownership to ease things. The blame game can never take anyone anywhere. Also, take criticism with a smile and find a solution that helps all.

Changing beliefs
Beliefs are important as they define thoughts. Your beliefs could be critical in deciding the course of your career. If you do not believe in yourself, your capabilities, then you are unlikely to accomplish your goals. At the same time, sticking to outdated beliefs is also futile. Therefore, let go of the beliefs that are no longer useful and applicable to help yourself turn into a cheerful person.

Positive attitude
When good things happen, you feel good but when the going gets tough, it’s frustrating. Ups and downs are a part of everyone’s lives. So don’t be too serious. Developing a positive attitude would drive you to success and help to fight adverse circumstances. Your attitude is the deciding factor for your mental health.

Finally yet importantly, indulge yourself in something that interests you. It will make you feel good.

Follow the tips mentioned above and you will be closer to changing how you feel at work. Try them out today.

Tips to write an effective cover letter

A cover letter is the first impression for a recruiter and must encourage him to read your resume further. Read on to find out why you need a cover letter and how to go about writing it.

Your cover letter must specifically talk about the position you are applying for. It is important for you to tailor-make your cover letter for each job you apply to. A resume cannot be targeted to each job, but a cover letter can and must necessarily be so. Also remember a cover letter should complement and not duplicate your resume.

The purpose of the cover letter is:

  • To tell the employer the type of position you are seeking, and how exactly you are qualified for that position. This information also tells the hiring manager how well you know the organization and position.
  • You need to also tell the hiring manager what caused you to apply: whether an advertisement, the recommendation of a friend who works there, or your own interest in the company.
  • Further your cover letter can explain things that your resume can't. If you have large gaps in your employment history or are re-entering the job market after break, a cover letter is the best way to explain these circumstances and project things in a positive way.
  • Again, if you are changing the focus of your career, or planning to relocate and so are conducting a long-distance job-search, the cover letter can explain your outlook on your new career path and the kind of employment you are seeking and why.

Introductory Paragraph:  This states why you are writing to the recruiter/employee. Some basic options are:

  • “Please find enclosed my CV, which I am forwarding to you as an application for the position of...”
  • “In reference to your advertisement in... dated... attached is my resume.”

It may also include a synopsis of why you are a top candidate for the position. Some examples:

  • “Your position advertised on nikhiljobs.com is an excellent fit with my qualifications, as the enclosed resume will attest."
  • "My background includes... years of successfully managing... I offer particular expertise in..., with in-depth knowledge of …”
  • “My extensive experience in... and my commitment to achieving the highest quality aligns extremely well with the ... position that you are currently advertising.”
  • “My extensive top-level background in ...makes me exactly the kind of value-added executive you need ... as advertised by you in ..."

Main body of the letter: The main body of the letter should be two to maximum three paragraphs. Here you must summarize key experience and skills. You also need to highlight your area of specialization, number of years in the industry etc. You should also highlight any unique points that you might have and include a brief description of your personal skills.
Further you need to demonstrate how your credentials, motivation and track record would benefit the company’s operation. You can begin by "Highlights of my credentials include:" or "Key strengths I offer include…”

Closing Paragraph: The closing paragraph should ask for action from the recipient. It should also thank the recipient for giving you the opportunity to apply. You can add things like:

  • "Should you require further information..."
  •  “Look forward to a face to face discussion”.
  • "Thank you for your kind consideration.”

MOM, WILL YOU WRAP ME WITH YOUR SCARF

By Rajendra.Deshpande.

Love is what we do and what we  don't!

One Sunday, a mother took her son and little daughter to watch a circus. In the middle of the circus, the little girl, Jenny, who was two years old, fell asleep in her mother's lap. The brother, Jack, who was six, stayed awake, and watched the rest of the circus with his mother. When it was over, the mother picked up Jenny in her arms and carried her to the bus station. It was very cold that night, so she took off her scarf and gently covered Jenny's head with it. When they arrived home, the mother first carried Jenny into the bed room and put her to sleep. After Jack had changed his clothes, his mother lay down next to him to talk about the evening together.

"How did you like it, Jack?"

"Fine, he answered.

"Did you have fun?"

"Yes".

"What did you like most?"

"I don't know. The elephant dance, I guess."

"That was quite a thing, wasn't it doing those tricks like that?"

There wasn’t much response on his  part. The mother wondered why her son wasn't opening up more. He usually did when exciting things happened. She was a little disappointed.

She sensed something was wrong: he had been so quiet on the way home and while getting ready for bed.

Suddenly Jack turned over on his side, facing the wall. She wondered why and lifted her up just enough to see his eyes welling up with tears.

"What's wrong, honey? What is it?"

He turned back, and she could sense he was feeling some embarrassment for the tears and his shivering

lips and chin."Mom, if I were cold, would you put your scarf around me, too?"

Of all the events of that special evening out together, for Jack the most important was a little act of affection - a momentary, unconscious showing of her love to his little sister.

MORAL: In relationships, little things matter the most.

Happy or Satisfied

By  V. Prasanna Venkatesan

The words Happy and Satisfaction may look alike.

But there is a huge gape between these two.
Happiness is what we are feeling good about our improvement over to your past. But the Satisfaction is all about we feel the end of what could be done.
In appraising any employee, or during self assessment, we should always be happy if we are growing and if we start feeling satisfied, that could be the end of our achievements..
